Happy 3 months Walker!

I’ve known Walker’s mom, Anna, for years. We grew up in church together and went to the same school. She and her husband Russ were leaders in the youth group at our church, and it’s so cool to now see them as parents. I shot her sister Ellen a month or so ago for her football program pictures, if you remember, so I was delighted when Anna messaged me on Facebook asking if I’d do Walker’s 3mo portraits. Walker was born in May, and is the biggest ball of smiles. Completely adorable, and so fun to shoot and to try out a few new prop ideas like using Scrabble letters. Enjoy!

P.S.- Click on the pictures to see them bigger.

We’re back!!

Sorry for the lack of TILT last week guys! I was getting ready for this art show I was participating in on Saturday and there was so much to do that I didn’t have time for the blog. Sad, I know. But we’re back this week! So heeeeere we go!!

1. My best friend Chaney (read her blog) just introduced me to this really cool music sharing website called Grooveshark.com. It’s a little like Pandora, but I think Grooveshark’s a lot easier to use. You can find just about any song you want, and play them in any order you like. Make playlists, shuffle random songs, and pretty much do anything your heart desires with the music you find. So check it out!

2. Ok, unless you’re a guy with super long hair this next one will be just for the ladies. I was perusing the wonderful world of Pinterest one day last week (greatest time wasting website ever) and came across this YouTube video of a Swedish girl demonstrating how to curl your hair with a sock. I know it sounds completely crazy, but if you have shoulder-length hair or longer you should totally try it! I attempted it with zero success because my hair isn’t long enough, but I’m dying for someone to try it. If you have long hair, try it and let me know if it works. I’m growing my hair out for the sole purpose of being able to do this to my hair every day, so I’d love a guinea pig. This girl has a ton of other hair tutorials that I’m slowly getting around to watching. She’s great, and so is her English!

Here’s the vid!

(I think the LOTR poster in the background is a nice touch)

3. The band Mumford & Sons is my new favorite folksy group. I first heard them when they performed on this year’s Grammy Awards, and they blew me away. I’m a sucker for a good musician, and these guys are great! White Blank Page just might be my favorite of theirs. It has such a powerful message. It’s one of those classic heartbreak songs all about the confusion and tragedy that is love lost. I’m guessing this is pretty much how everyone feels (because I know I have) when they experience the disappointment side of love, and this song just illustrates it beautifully. The Cave is also a great one.  It’s one of the songs they played that night I first heard them at the Grammys. They’re incredible live performers. Just from watching their live videos you can tell that they’re all about the music. Like I said, I’m a sucker for a good musician. They’re my favorite. Especially that lead singer…oh mercy! Hah. But seriously, have a listen and tell me you don’t want to marry every last one of them!

4.  My sister Melody (go check out her website) told me about Bloglovin.com a while ago and I’m just now discovering its greatness. It’s sort of like StumbleUpon for blogs. Find blogs on subjects you’re interested in, and then follow them like you would on twitter. It’s just what the blogosphere needed. If you’re into blogs like I am, this thing will be your best friend!

This blog is on there too, so follow me!

Happy Thursday!

Hello Thursday!

Here we go!!

1. I don’t normally put the best of the weeks things I love as the very first, but this time I just can’t wait. At my sister’s house-warming party on Saturday we all ended up sitting around showing each other our favorite YouTube videos and one of my sister’s school friends brought us to Justin and Michael’s YouTube Channel. They record covers of popular songs from their living room, but the difference between them and any other cover artist is that, well, they’re actually good! Really good in fact! By the time I’d finished the first video I was hooked, and kindof in love. My best friend even said “Shelby, we need to find these guys so you can marry one of them!” While I completely agree, it’s highly unlikely. These guys are super talented, and completely worth a click or two to check them out.

2. One of my favorite movies of all time is the original 1961 101 Dalmatians movie. It’s one of those cozy curl-up-on-a-rainy-day movies. And just because the likelihood of a rainy day coming anytime soon (for us Texans) is like one in a billion doesn’t mean you can’t pop the movie in whenever you’re feeling dalmatian-y. I can’t think of any reason why you haven’t seen this movie, but if you happen to have grown up under a rock on a desert island then I definitely suggest you watch it! (if you were counting, I managed to say the word “movie” in every sentence. Do I win a prize?)

3. Candles are one of my favorite things ever. They make things smell better, they look cool, and they make any room look more homey. I think the sole reason I survived my freshman year of college was having a candle in my room (um….it may or may not have been…illegal). Creature comforts, y’know? Feel free to send me a candle or twenty if you feel like it. Just kidding. But seriously.

4. My current favorite commercial is the Criss Angel Orville Redenbacher’s commercial. I think it’s completely hilarious. Watch it. Love it. You’re welcome.

Have a lovely Thursday!

The Alexander Family

The Alexanders have been on staff at my home church for as long as I can remember. Chad was my youth minister for most of my junior high and high school years, and Kelly has been an incredible role model for me growing up. They will soon be leaving us, however, because Chad has been offered a pastoring position at a church in south Texas. I’m sad to see them go, but incredibly excited and happy for how God will use this incredible family for His glory. They were so much fun to shoot. Enjoy!
